We see that Margot's father had deliberately turned up the volume of static on the TV to suppress the conversation. Not too sure if the 2for1 special was a good idea, cheaper than both books, but more expensive than each as a single. All in all, I stuck with the story because I do enjoy a good mystery, and the novel did deliver in some areas. From New York Times bestselling author Harlan Coben comes an unforgettable duet of classic novels—two top-notch thrillers filled with the author’s signature storytelling genius. Harlen Coben will be the first author, from now on, when I think of crime novels, I'll pick his other books without hesitation.

Then, to protect herself Margot placed the photos taken by Anne in a safe deposit box and contacted Gilbert Neuville to warn him that she was holding incriminating evidence against Philippe. Though I did find several of the characters stereotypical I still thought a couple really took center stage. Femininity takes a constant and sometimes literal backseat to masculinity, and his treatment of sexuality, while better than avera Enraged by the story, Alex picks up the gun, aims it at Margot's father, and begins to squeeze the trigger. His stories are captivating, twisted, deep, emotional and still with every chapter - so clean, so perfectly executed. Charlotte explains that there was no accident, that one day Margot showed up bruised and asked her to claim that she was in an accident with her, should Alex ever ask. Margot (Marie-Josée Croze) was murdered by a serial killer eight years ago, and her husband, Alexandre (François Cluzet), continues to mourn her death. He also introduced a couple of serious toughs to help his protagonist so it was not as glaring an issue. In the meantime Captain Levkowitch and his partner learn from a clerk at flight check-in that the seat adjacent to Alex Beck was reserved by a woman named Caroline Perreire and that the tickets were purchased only five minutes apart.

While he is watching, he sees a woman who looks like Margot walk into the frame, turn to the camera, look at him, and slowly speak to the camera though Alex can only see her speak. Apparently regaining his senses, Alex leaves the house where he is greeted by a swat team and Captain Levkowitch. The movie followed the book pretty closely and I was pleased that my favorite part in the movie was even more expanded in the book (you see the main male character is a pediatrician working for the poor and one of his clients is a drug dealer/crime related guy who dearly respects the doctor for helping out his hemophilac son). Even the good guys are presented with moral dilemmas where they make dicey choices and you question your own self as to whether you would have done things differently. I'm not surprised the two stories were grouped together - they're very similar, both dealing with missing (presumed dead) family members and secrets unravelling.
