If you book a viewing or make an offer on a property that has had its valuation conducted virtually, you are doing so under the knowledge that this information may have been provided solely by the vendor, and that we may not have been able to access the premises to confirm the information or test any equipment. So much of it reminded me of my British grandmother and her inability to refrain from tinkering and doing little chores and odd jobs around the house At. That rest involved downing her digital devices, staying local and filling her Tuesdays with easy-to-achieve tasks.

But i realized that whenever I do really simple things like sweeping my room, washing pasties, cleaning out my car etc that i think of this book. And yet the author, Anna McGovern, also touches on the need to find balance, to not let “pottering” turn into procrastination, making one avoid getting things done. Yes, you may be pottering doing household tasks but you're deriving some pleasure/satisfaction from it.The dictionary definition is rather too dismissive for my liking: ‘Potter verb: occupy oneself in a desultory but pleasant manner, doing a number of small tasks or not concentrating on anything in particular. What you do when you potter is often so inconsequential that it’s not worth a picture or post on social media.

McGovern argues that this sequence can send you into a “meditative state” and that, once you are in this state of “flow” an interruption can “cause a sensation of intrusion” – proof that what you are doing has created a sense of contentment. It explains the whole idea of "pottering" and what it means to "potter" about and do the most mundane things, we enjoy, like make a cup of tea or clear out that long neglected cupboard. Over the last few months, I’ve been engaging in an activity that allows me to slow down, take pleasure in small things and rest while still being somewhat productive.

What a delightful little book, and timely too - given the rushed state of the world we live in, coupled with the demands of navigating life in a global pandemic. As you enter into the hallway the standard of accommodation is evident and reflects the executive style of homes in the area.

Then the chapters are full of musing and specific suggestions for how to go about pottering when following that particular guideline.
