There are plenty of cringe-worthy moments too, when the youngest poo’s and of course the many mentions of poo with her youngest two will both gross you out and make you chuckle with laughter. When we get a bit older, and especially when we have girls, women often lose touch with old friends. However, yes this character does catch a break, yes this novel leads to happiness I just personally struggled with it.

Serena has been extremely candid in her videos about her mental health and the fact she takes medication for anxiety. In a very funny, sarcastic, and witty glimpse of her life, we see Tara trying to find a good balance between work, family, and time for herself. She decided to 'have a go' herself and, after early efforts using voice-overs, it dawned that she could get her comedy across better using her own voice and doing her own skits. During the first lockdown, social media was so full of sadness, fear, tragedy and fake news that I turned off Instagram and Facebook. From the creator of viral Tiktok sensation, Mammy Banter , comes a hilarious warts-and-all novel about modern motherhood – and how having it all sometimes isn’t what you think it might be. But I did love that he was there for her and made sure that she had her own time to just do her thing.

I get extreme joy from keeping people laughing through my comedy videosbut there’s only so much context you can give through short-form videos. While Tara is a mammy living in Derry and there are definitely many local references and ‘ Derryisms’ - like the words ‘wain’ and ‘boke’ in the book, it is also written in a way that doesn’t alienate readers not living here.Had it on audio and there were lots of laugh out loud moments, was worth the listen whilst chilling on a sun lounger in sunny Lanzarote on a girls holiday. During that period, Terry describes grieving over the loss of her 38-year-old twin brothers, Patrick and Daniel, months earlier. Anti-feminist views, Ageism, Hypocrisy, Double standards, Victim blaming, Pedophilic implication, Misogyny/ Sexism. Tara has realized that between motherhood and her office job she has all but lost herself some where in between. Serena currently has over one million followers online; 850K on TikTok, 188K on Instagram, 400K on Facebook, and this is growing.

Having seen family and friends go through some tough stuff with their kids I can relate to Tara from and outsider perspective. Tara was a great MC and I loved seeing her decide for herself, pick something fun for herself, find new friends, go to gym classes. I have anxiety myself so I know this feeling 𝙑𝙀𝙍𝙔 well, but she makes a full circle by the end of the book and realises that the person who she thought she had lost was there all along and she was the only one that had been putting herself down (although her bratty teenager didn’t help) and she begins to appreciate those around her for who they are also. It has also enabled and enhanced communications helping individuals and organisations to stay in touch, be responsive and adapt to change.

I put up one video on my Mammy Banter account to say I'd done it – I'd taken the leap – and then I had 7,000 followers on my business account on Instagram within a couple of hours. Overall, this is one of those novels where you want to keep reading, it makes you smile, laugh, and reminisce about the good ol’ times. In spite of her perceived confident presence online, Terry has raised awareness with fans about her struggles with anxiety and depression. But behind the skits lies a serious side to Serena Terry, who has drawn upon expert skills in digital marketing to start up her own digital marketing consultancy – using Mammy Banter videos as a case study to attract new clients. Although at the time, I had deleted Instagram and Facebook, I still felt the internet could be a great place for people to be entertained on our downtime and connect with people, so TikTok filled that void for me.
