I didn’t really like the type of genre but every chapter had a cliffhanger so that made me read the whole book. Meanwhile, somewhere in Nevada, Cobalt Black also sees the report and commends Cassie, noting that she has now opened up a new world of possibilities. A year earlier, Cassie and her parents were invited by Black to his lab, wanting to discuss plans to handle the Fury when Cobalt inevitably dies. It’s obviously inspired by The Boys, Shazam, and a dash of Marvel (I mean, Russia’s secret weapon, America’s greatest hero?

The screenplay version of the story was said to contain less scenes, such as the cruise liner incident and the scene with the Vice President at LAX. Whilst each of the children have inherited some of her powers, they are only at about half the strength of Cobalt (Except for Black, who, unfortunately, got less ‘Superpowers’ and more ‘Super Intelligence’, but as a result, is insane, as all the intelligence has warped his mind). And even when she does, the victory is all hollow because she does nothing to earn it except be walked through a funhouse of flashbacks. Cassie checks on Trey and Gary, and then has the latter livestream on his social networks so that Cassie can declare the Fury's death and reveal herself to the world as Cobalt Blue. Two years earlier, Gary invited Cassie to his penthouse suite, where he presented her with a superhero suit and told Cassie that if she wanted to, she could be a hero. I blitzed through this book and I'm definitely keen to read more from this world of megalomaniac supes. It should be noted straight off that this is a Novella, just so that people know that this is not a full-sized novel. Matthew Reilly yet again delivers a fantastic rollercoaster of emotions and definitely a book that you cannot stop reading. In a secret lab somewhere in Siberia, the Fury of Russia's last son, the Fury of Sevastopol, otherwise known as the Genius, watches the news reports on the Fury's death. Trey is confused; he is aware that Cobalt and Cobalt Green saved the passengers of the sinking Caribbean Star, but as Cassie reveals, the sinking was orchestrated by the Fury of Moscow to cover up the assassination of a former Secretary of Defense.

Yet in spite of their great abilities, both continued to age as normal humans do, and Cobalt, already older than the Fury by two decades, eventually passes away at age 79. On the other side of the coin, we see the Fury of Russia, Nikolai Furin, and see the life of a depraved psycho, who was barely contained by the military in Russia, and is now out of control, doing whatever he wants. In the end, there is a short interview with the author where he claims this novella was initially a movie script. Matthew Reilly continues to produce some of the best action thrillers on the market today, and this is no exception, Cobalt Blue is another masterpiece in what is a collection of exceptional books. Everyone has to take on the antagonist in a solo fight, even though it has been established for decades that they are powerless against him.
