I'm not actually much of a spoken word poetry fan, try as I might have over the years to become one. An alum of Brown University Graduate School’s Masters Program in the Art of Teaching Secondary English. It is like watching a really good film, and then reading the book and taking a slightly different experience away with it, like reading Lord of the Rings after watching the film, and still enjoying the book afterwards. I have so many favourite poems (I loved like 90% of this collection), but the ones that really wowed me were B, The Type, Brother, Jellyfish, Shosholoza, and Ghost Ship. This collection's transformative helps readers to find a sanctuary of words that uplift your spirit and ignite imagination.

An alum of the United Nations International School and a graduate of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. Both fresh and wise, Kay’s poetry allows readers to join her on the journey of discovering herself and the world around her. It seems like these poets sometimes just put a bunch of random stuff together, punctuate it with spaces and almost dare, challenge you to finally yell "What is this? I highly recommend this one, even if you are not fan of poetry, you will surely love this one in a heartbeat!Although Kay works primarily in spoken word poetry, she has had written poems published in magazines such as Foundling Review, DamselFly Press, and decomP literary magazine. I thought on paper her poems might seem flat and lack that excitement and passion she had conveyed with ease on screen. She shows us at all times that she is willing to learn from experiences and to take life lessons away from it. Her second book, "No Matter the Wreckage" is a collection of poetry from the first decade of her career, released March 18, 2014. There are a number of differences between spoken-word poetry and written poetry (that I've picked up on anyways).

A number of the poems in the book can be found presented on YouTube, though many are being introduced to the world for the first time here on paper. Some of the poems are not new to those who have followed her videos on YouTube and seen her TEDtalks, so they will be accustomed to infamous pieces such as B, Shosholoza, Montauk and Private Parts. Most importantly, the poems themselves are beautifully written, capturing a spectrum of ideas and topics in a really touching, personal fashion. No Matter The Wreckage is a collection of poetry with the themes of love as well as random things out of the blue, including travel, cities and our surroundings. Sarah is perhaps best known for her talk at the 2011 TED conference which garnered over 3 million online views.

A lovely book of poems to take your time with or like me when you find yourself with a cup of tea in one hand this book should be in the other. No Matter the Wreckage invites readers to revel in both new and beloved works, showcasing Kay's remarkable ability to celebrate the essence of family, love, travel, history, and even peculiar romances between inanimate objects ("Toothbrush to the Bicycle Tire") with eloquence and charm.Sarah Kay's spectacular poetry reached me so deeply that I've already passed the book on to my little sister a mere ten minutes after reading it, because I wanted to share the gift of these spectacular and empowering words with her.
