Description

When Sarah examines an urn discovered at a decrepit grave near Viterbo, she uncovers within it relics of a witch known as the Mother of Tears (Moran Atias). Mother of Tears premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on 6 September 2007, just moments before midnight and Argento's 67th birthday (on the 7th). The house's number is 49 and bears a plaque that states that Georges Ivanovich Gurdjieff once resided there. As long as you don’t expect it to be “high art” and are familiar with more Dario Argento films than just “Suspiria”, then you’ll probably enjoy this one.

Whilst all of these elements aren’t a huge part of the film, fans of the trilogy will definitely appreciate them. Whilst she’s a likeable character, she doesn’t really have the naïve quality you’d expect from these films, and this is oddly refreshing to see. With help from the assistant curator, Sarah opens the box and finds the cloak, a dagger, and three statues representing the three witches.

Sarah meets Marta ( Valeria Cavalli), a white witch and friend of Sarah's deceased mother Elisa ( Daria Nicolodi). The urn is shipped to the Museum of Ancient Art in Rome, where Sarah Mandy (Asia Argento), an American studying art restoration, works. Medusa's main objection is to "the depiction of perverse sex in the witch gathering satanic scenes and one cannibal killing of a major character. She heads for Marta's house and discovers that Lachrymarum's minions have murdered Marta and her lover. Markos is depicted as an ancient, disfigured, centuries-old crone maintaining control over the coven and seeking to acquire a new, younger body as her current one is riddled in leprous sores, tumorous growths and immobile infants' limbs growing out of her own.
