Join the master of one-liners Gene Fitzpatrick, the first lady of comedy May McFetridge (John Linehan) and the ever-endearing Jimmy Cricket . And from now until January 15, children and adults alike can expect laugh-out-loud comedy, stunning scenery and beautiful costumes as May stars as the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella – clocking up a record-breaking 32 Grand Opera House pantomime seasons. May McFettridge (John Linehan) brings to the part all the warmth, comedy and feeling for flawed humanity that she is famous for. The appeal is obvious - May McFettridge brings a hilariously Northern Irish twist to whatever magical fairytale she's in.

Their combined dabblings in the spirit world produce a chain of hilarious events, unlock hidden powers and family secrets and ensure that no one escapes the ‘ghosts of the past’. In the hands of her softly-spoken alter ego John Linehan, she has become something of a cultural icon - part of the Christmas furniture at the Opera House, where, in the 101 years of its life, she has given more performances than any other person, real or imagined, living or dead.Linehan invented the name and the character by ad libbing — the first name being that of his mother-in-law and the surname being that of an Antrim hurler by the name of Olcan McFettridge, whose exploits in a National Hurling League game had made headlines in a local newspaper, which happened to be beside Linehan when put on the spot. John Joseph Linehan, MBE (born 1952, Belfast, Northern Ireland) is an Irish entertainer, most known for his drag queen character May McFettridge.
