I didn’t mind the crew being in my house as I want to show viewers the simplicity of my life in Sardinia, as it’s completely different from my crazy one in the UK! Cooking for Phillip [Schofield] and Holly [Willoughby] is one of my favourite things to do and I consider them friends. In a personal food odyssey, Gino will be travelling the length and breadth of Italy to encounter local dishes . In this personal food odyssey, Gino will be travelling the length and breadth of Italy from Naples, Florence and Bologna to encounter local dishes from families and their matriarchs along the way. Helen Cooke, Joint Creative Director of Betty TV added, “It’s a pleasure to be working with Gino as he cooks for his toughest crowd yet – some of Italy’s feistiest female cooks.Gino said, “From learning to make pizza at the fingertips of my Nonna Flora, to stirring simmering pots of ragu in my mamma’s kitchen.

In the clip below, Gino is in his hometown of Torre Del Greco and is reunited with some of the women who helped to raise him and inspired him to cook.

Drawing on the wisdom of his late mother, his fifteen bossy aunties, and a whole nation of home-cooking nonnas, Gino shares the secrets to making the very best version of much-loved Italian classics. In a personal food odyssey, Gino will be travelling the length and breadth of Italy to encounter local dishes from families and their matriarchs along the way. My journey as a chef is all thanks to two generations of women, who without their passion for the food that they fed their families, I would not be where I am. You can also watch Gino D'Acampo in Gino In Sardinia on ITV’s This Morning from Tuesday September 6 at 10am (see our interview for more on his Sardinia trip). Nicola said: “This show will see Gino immersed in the culture that fired his passion for cooking and invite viewers to join him as he celebrates the women who nurture and continue the traditions that make Italian food the centre of family life with all the warmth, humour and wisdom that brings.

Is it true you’ve also invited a film crew for ITV’s This Morning into ‘Villa D’Acampo’ in Sardinia, where you live for half the year? It has 246 pages of recipes, family pictures of Gino and his family/ up-bring and each recipe comes with a big colorful picture. I grow fruit and veg in my Villa and they’re the first things I eat whenever I arrive – that and spaghetti with fresh clams. The 6×30 series from Betty TV celebrates the women who have fed Italy and shaped the country’s cuisine through the ages. Recent and current series include multi-award-winning The Undateables for Channel 4; Wheeler Dealers: Dream Car for Discovery and Jimmy Doherty’s Dream Builds on Wheels for Discovery Quest; Joey Essex: Grief and Me for BBC Three; Magnolia’s Emmy-nominated For the Love of Kitchens, and forthcoming Canard co-production Fred’s Last Resort for E4.

It will always be the most special dish in the world to me because it’s the last dish that my mother cooked for me before she passed away. Biography: Born into a large family in Napoli, Gino's love of cooking developed from a young age when he was taught to cook by his mother and, at the age of 11, started working at his grandfather's restaurant. He kicks off in Gino’s birthplace, Torre del Greco, where a Gino was taught to cook by his late Nonna Flora and Mamma Alba.
