You also get a 512GB SSD, which gives you plenty of space for all your documents, media, and files without compromising on performance. Thirty percent of the laptop’s chassis uses from recycled material, and 85% of the box is made from recycled paper. The Vero neither embarrassed nor distinguished itself in this group, though you should abandon any hope of playing the latest games or cranking up the image-quality settings in older ones. If you care a lot about the environmental impact of your laptop, you shouldn’t be adding up the recycled plastic inside of it. Turning the laptop over, you'll notice that the Vero uses standard screws to hold its undercarriage in place, allowing for upgrades, repairs, and the eventual recycling of your machine without hassle.

While it may not be much greener than the original, it offers better performance across the board, keeping competitive with other consumer laptops.Whether with integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics or integrated AMD Radeon graphics, none of the laptops distinguished themselves on 3DMark. At higher resolutions, the Acer Aspire Vero struggles to keep above 20fps, but at 1080p, it fared a lot better.

There are also two tiny yellow feet on the display hinge, and they swing down when you open the display to prop up the back edge of the laptop to further aid airflow and create a slight angle to improve your typing experience. None of these are horrifying to see on a budget laptop — but laptops that are built cheaply tend not to last as long as nicer ones, and a laptop you need to replace quickly is not environmentally friendly. HP’s comparable Pavilion series also uses some “ocean-bound” plastics, but seemingly only in the speaker enclosure. We have to hand it to Acer, mind – we initially thought the pad was glass because the soft-touch plastic used here is a great impersonation of textured glass.Reusable packaging – as well as using recycled materials and being recyclable again, the Vero's box can be transformed into a laptop stand for an even smaller carbon footprint.

and everything worked perfectly out of the box: Hardly surprising given the Vero’s vanilla Intel underpinnings but still very welcome. However, as the Vero uses a standard cooling setup, you will hear that higher pitch sound of a smaller diameter fan working hard. Acer claims that this machine has been through the same durability tests as its conventional machines, but the Vero doesn’t feel strong. The buttons feel a bit too hollow and rattle a little too much, and they could be larger – especially on the numberpad and cursor keys.Sturdy keycaps provide comfortable feedback, with a standard row of system-setting shortcuts at the top. Get set with 12th Gen Intel® Core™ Processors2 and up to 10 cores – all optimized for your multitasking and productivity needs. Both models have Iris Xe integrated graphics and a 1920 x 1080 display and ship with Windows 11 Home. It’s of a good size too, more like the scale of an ultraportable laptop’s pad rather than an old-school productivity laptop.

It’s not as annoying as these programs sometimes are — I wasn’t bombarded with annoying Norton popups and Acer Jumpstart ads — but I did still have to uninstall a bunch of junk. You can manipulate battery-saving settings in the Verosense app, which could lead to some extra battery time. Finally, we use a Datacolor SpyderX Elite calibrator to measure the display's color coverage (in three popular gamuts or color spaces) and brightness. Making laptops with recycled materials is an honourable aim, even if it does not make up for the environmental impact of all the stuff that actually goes into a laptop. Rather than having unsightly stickers slapped all over the place, the keyboard deck has the words “Intel Core” and “Post Consumer Recycled” etched into it for a much classier look. That's about average when compared to other 14-inch systems like the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i 14, though surprisingly heavier than the 14-inch Acer Spin 5 convertible.
