Description

The interactions and conversation between Dex and Mosscap are poignant, putting into words the doubt we can all have around our self-worth when we feel we are not being productive. An AI on the other hand, would be able to communicate with us in whatever language we speak and it has access to.

Anyway, despite plenty of interesting thoughts and funny interactions between Dex and Mosscap (see: early mornings, ankles), I sometimes found myself annoyed with the ecotopia of Chambers's world, the slightly didactic tone in which money-less post-capitalism exchange is explained, jealousy-free polyamorous families function, and even the provenance of different kinds of bioplastic is detailed. The first book in Chambers' new series feels like a moment to breathe, a novel that exists to give readers a place to rest and think. A] lightly drawn but profound meditation on belief, entropy, and the nature of need and want that once again demonstrates Chambers's prowess as both a storyteller and a thinker. This has led them to reach the brink of exhaustion and it resonated with me on a personal level, as I am sure it will for most of us.

Just trust me when I tell you it is perfect, it is beautifully judged, and—if the first book spoke to you in any way—it is everything you need. As they mastered the art of brewing the perfect blend of tea whilst listening to the concerns of others, they still found a gaping hole in their life that they couldn’t fulfil.

I'm the world's biggest fan of odd couple buddy road trips in science fiction, and this odd couple buddy road trip is a delight: funny, thoughtful, touching, sweet, and one of the most humane books I've read in a long time. Quiet and contemplative, empathic and warmhearted, this masterful sequel builds on the themes of the first volume to posit a more sustainable, more caring way of life. I really loved the first book in the duology, but A Prayer for the Crown-Shy is a favorite in a whole different way.but i loved the discussions on community and building a community and showing for your communities - and it was all extra powerful. truly a beautiful story, that feels like a warm and healing hug, and i hope becky chambers gives us more! Readers get more information about how the human society on Panga, their homeworld, operates and this is a version of a communal utopia. Between the world she has created, the characters we meet, and her writing style, the book is a thought provoking masterpiece. But then again, perhaps it was a good thing for someone to appreciate the craftsmanship of a backroads highway or a quick-printed road sign.
