Fans of the song Love Walked In won’t be disappointed as the album contains the softer on the ears ballads Unravelling and Is Anybody Out There.

The new album comes at the perfect time for Thunder, whose line-up for the last quarter-century and more has been Luke and Danny Bowes (singer), plus Ben Matthews (guitar and keyboards), Chris Childs (bass) and Harry James (drums). Promotion [Radio Assistance] – Instinctive PR*, Raised On Radio (2), Steve Dinwoodie, Whitney RibbinsGuitarist, songwriter and Thunder co-founder Luke Morley says: “’We didn’t set out to make a double album but as the writing and recording process went on we wandered into some interesting areas and then it became a case of ‘can we afford to leave any of this off?’ In the end, we did reduce it from 20 tunes to 16 but it wasn’t an easy choice.” Album opener, ‘The Western Sky’ ably sets the tone for both the sound and the feel of the album to follow. We recently spoke to Luke Morley about the proliferance and ferociousness of some of the guitar riffage on ‘Dopamine’ and you can read what he had to say about that subject right here.‘The Western Sky’ is a celebration of freedom and the band’s annual trans-American charity motorbike trip. It’s epic in both the tone and the cinematic nature of the lyrics as it builds towards a searing guitar solo with Zeppelin-like overtones. I read a fascinating article by an American psychologist,” Luke says, “who said that social media forces us to become dopamine addicts. We’re validated and liked on social media, which releases the dopamine, and so we get addicted to it. On 1 st January 1989, Terraplane held their annual New Year’s Day meeting, it would be their last. Vocalist Danny Bowes and guitarist Luke Morley had decided to fold the band, and form a new one, this band would be called Thunder.

Promotion [Live], Booking – AEG*, Andy Copping, Dave Driscoll (4), Live Nation, Orchard Live*, Steve Homer We take more and more selfies in the hope of more and more validation, and the album cover reflects this. People are surrounded by amazing things that they’re missing because they’re so self-obsessed. Of course, you’ll have to get your hands on the physical album to see all of the amazing things I’m referring to.” We didn’t set out to make a double album,” Guitarist, songwriter and Thunder co-founder Luke Morley says, “but as the writing and recording process went on, we wandered into some interesting areas. Then it became a case of can we afford to leave any of this off? In the end, we did reduce it from 20 tunes to 16, but it wasn’t an easy choice.”Promotion [Live Promotion], Booking – AEG*, Andy Copping, Dave Driscoll (4), Live Nation, Orchard Live*, Steve Homer Just A Grifter’ has a Parisian café feel about it, folky, starting with an acoustic guitar strumming, Bowes vocal is careful and thoughtful, the French vibe continues complete with an accordion and violin. And this is where there is a little bit of a surprise in store, ‘Pink Supermoon’, is a schmoozy, jazzy, city on a hot summer’s night of a tune, but not at all what I was expecting! But hey ‘Thunder’ do this bloody well, and it feels groovy!

I was very relieved to learn, though, that this is most definitely not the case, and lead Singer Danny Bowes’ vocals are still as impressively powerful and clear three decades on! It’s hard to believe that the band is now in their 33rd year and with the pesky pandemic putting a spanner in all our works, the Thunder chaps have not been idle and given us all a double album offering that reads like a novel about the past freaky few years we have been going through.Thunder are at the very peak of their considerable form, still offering fans doses of ‘Dopamine’ after all these years. A Thunder album isn’t one you just listen to, you take a journey through it, you become part of it. There are rises and falls in tempo, styles, emotions and thoughts.
