Description

At the moment I think we’re at about 36 operational distilleries, all producing whiskey," said Peter. "So, in five years time, it’s not going to be as scarce as it is now. And people often quote casks or bottles of whiskey going for an awful lot of money, that’s because it’s a brand... just liquid sloshing around in a barrel is difficult to sell." Nose: Fairly indistinguishable from a bourbon, with major caramel, honey, and vanilla. I get just the barest hint of a grainy pie crust note, too, as well as some oak. A smooth and balanced sip is on offer here with notes of citrus, nutmeg, apple and malt. There are plenty of reasons for seeking out a bottle of West Cork. Whiskybase B.V. is the Dutch private limited liability company, having its statutory seat in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and its office at Zwaanshals 530, 3035 KS Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Whiskybase B.V. is registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under no. 52072819. Arguably the most famous Irish whiskey on the market, Jameson has been going since 1780 and few Irish drinks, aside from Guinness, have achieved success like it.

Nose: Surprisingly demure for such a high-ABV whiskey. Vanilla, raisins, oak. Adding water reveals a grassy note, and not much else. First up is one of West Cork’s two new U.S. releases, their barrel proof Irish whiskey. It’s an unspecified blend of malt and grain whiskeys, aged in bourbon barrels and bottled at a fiery barrel-strength 124 proof, and sold as a limited release. Part of Mitchell’s ‘spot’ range, it’s been on sale continuously since the early 1900s but now its reach is global and thus (thankfully for us!) far more widely available. Beer Series

While you can, if you’re so inclined, add a drop of ginger or cola to it, we’d recommend drinking it neat to truly understand its nuances. Taste is relatively strong for a blend, it reminds me of other West Cork expression so it has to carry a distillate character of the house. Burn is one of the lightest I get from blends, tho it tastes more like 43% than 40%.
